PM Modi also expressed his eagerness to collaborate on strengthening bilateral ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his heartfelt greetings and good wishes to newly-elected South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on assuming office on Tuesday.
PM Modi also expressed his eagerness to meet him soon and collaborate on strengthening and enriching the two nations' ties.
In a congratulatory tweet, he said, “I extend my heartfelt greetings and good wishes to ROK President @sukyeol__yoon as he commences his term in office today. I look forward to meeting him soon and working together to further strengthen and enrich the India-ROK ties.”
On March 17, PM Modi had a telephone conversation with newly-elected Yoon Suk-yeol. He congratulated Yoon on his win in the South Korean presidential elections. Both parties agreed that strengthening the India-Korea Special Strategic Partnership was essential.
PM Modi also invited Yoon Suk-yeol to visit India at his convenience as soon as possible. They both expressed a wish to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and South Korea in 2023.
India and South Korea established bilateral consular relations in 1962; this was upgraded to Ambassador-level in 1973.
In course of time, South Korea's open market policies and the New Southern Policy found resonance with India's economic liberalisation, 'Look East.Policy' as well as 'Act East Policy', says a note on bilateral relations by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA),
Relations between both countries have progressed significantly in recent years, becoming fully multidimensional as a result of a considerable convergence of interests, mutual respect, and high-level interactions, the MEA note says.
