The delegation will meet the top government leadership during the visit

A 25-member Bangladesh delegation is on a visit to Meghalaya, India on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the 1971 War of Liberation and the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (75 years of India's Independence).

This delegation is made up of 16 brave freedom fighters (Muktijoddhas) who received training in Meghalaya and fought in the Liberation War in Sector 11. The delegation also comprises Bangladeshis from many professions, including journalists, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh said.

The tour, from May 9-12, would allow members of the Bangladesh delegation and Indian organisers to experience key moments from the 1971 war and strengthen their bonds of friendship.

During this visit, the Bangladeshi delegation will meet with the leadership of the government of Meghalaya, including the Governor and Chief Minister, as well as other top government officials, during their visit, the Indian High Commission said.

The delegation will also meet with top officials from the Indian Army, Air Force, and Border Security Force, who have played key roles in training freedom fighters and fighting alongside them in the righteous war for independence.

This visit holds a lot of significance since India is commemorating its fallen heroes as part of its Golden Jubilee festivities, while Bangladesh is commemorating 50 years of independence. As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav festivities, the Indian government aims to undertake additional trips and engagements in the following months.
