They reaffirmed their commitment to continue to strengthen the bilateral Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni to attend the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions in Puglia, Italy in June this year.

Prime Minister Modi thanked PM Meloni for the invitation during a telephonic conversation on Thursday (April 25, 2024). He also greeted her on the 79th anniversary of Italy’s Liberation Day.

"Spoke with PM @GiorgiaMeloni and extended greetings as Italy celebrates its Liberation day today. Thanked her for the invite to the G7 Summit in June. Discussed taking forward #G20India outcomes at the G7. Reaffirmed commitment to deepening our Strategic Partnership," Prime Minister Modi wrote on social mediaplatform X, formerly Twitter.

The leaders discussed taking forward the important outcomes from India’s G20 Presidency, especially those that support the Global South, at the G7 Summit under Italy’s Presidency, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said after their conversation.

They reaffirmed their commitment to continue to strengthen the bilateral Strategic Partnership. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, the MEA added.

India and Italy decided to elevate their bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership during talks between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Meloni during the latter's visit to New Delhi on March 2, 2023. They also agreed to begin a new chapter of defence cooperation in a year that marked the 75th anniversary of India-Italy bilateral relations.

The two Prime Ministers later met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi on September 9, 2023 where they discussed issues related to trade and commerce as well as defence and emerging technologies.

"I had excellent meeting with PM @GiorgiaMeloni. Our talks covered sectors such as trade, commerce, defence, emerging technologies and more. India and Italy will keep working together for global prosperity," Prime Minister Modi posted on X after their meeting.
