The Summit focuses on collaboration and knowledge sharing among Supreme Audit Institutions
The SAI20 Summit, held under India's G20 Presidency, commenced in Goamon Monday (June 2, 2023) with a focus on the crucial role of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in the audit of the blue economy and responsible artificial intelligence (AI).
The SAI20 Engagement Group was chaired by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Girish Chandra Murmu with the goal of maximizing the benefits of these key sectors for humanity while advancing good governance, openness, and accountability.
In his opening address, CAG Murmu highlighted the challenges posed by the audit of the blue economy and responsible AI due to their all-encompassing and cross-cutting nature, coupled with the rapid evolution of technology and its applications.
He emphasized the significance of tight collaboration among SAIs for capacity building and information exchange. Murmu highlighted that the SAI20's emphasis on the "blue economy" and "responsible artificial intelligence" represented the prospects and problems of the new era while also recognizing the value of sustainability, growth, and developing technology.
CAG stressed the need for sincere collaboration and described the SAI20's efforts to comprehend international projects and experiences through discussions with professionals in the public and commercial sectors and seminars.
As the "blue economy" grows in popularity, CAG Murmu stressed the growing significance of auditing it. He urged the SAI20 community to work together proactively to create new approaches, methods, and capabilities. For such cooperation to be successful, formalizing the routes and platforms was deemed essential.
Addressing responsible AI, the CAG emphasized the need for governments to set up procedures to appropriately utilize this technology's promise. As AI permeates governance systems more and more, SAIs must get ready to audit AI-based systems and incorporate AI into their audit methodologies to increase their efficacy.
CAG Murmu announced the establishment of a Center of Excellence in the Blue Economy at SAI India's International Centre for Environment Audit and Sustainable Development (iCED). This center, which was launched in April 2023 with a global webinar, intends to promote research, information exchange, and capacity building among SAIs in this important area.
He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and contributions from various Supreme Audit Institutions and panelists, which resulted in the creation of two compendiums on the blue economy and responsible artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the event, India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant praised the founding of SAI20 and added that it had established a network between SAIs and governments, facilitating cooperation and strategy development. This collaboration would improve accountability and transparency, enabling SAIs to function as strong governance partners.
Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai stressed the SAI20 Group's crucial contribution to improving governance and the lives of residents. He acknowledged SAIs as important foundations of transparency, efficiency, and integrity in government.
Apart from them, eminent technologists shared their knowledge and experiences on responsible artificial intelligence throughout the conference, giving insights into several facets of cutting-edge technologies.
Over 85 national and international delegates from G20 member SAIs, guest SAIs, invited SAIs, international organizations, and engagement groups attended the SAI20 Conference.
