At the meeting, PM Modi emphasized the importance of the G20 presidency and added that it belongs to the whole country
Speaking at an all-party meeting on Monday, Prime Minister Modi said that the G20 Presidency of India belongs to the entire nation, and is a unique opportunity to showcase India’s strengths to the entire world.
The Prime Minister also pointed that there is global curiosity and attraction towards India today, which further increases the potential of India’s G20 Presidency, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said after the meeting.
Prime Minister Modi chaired the all-party meeting to discuss aspects relating to India’s G20 Presidency. The meeting saw active participation from political leaders across the country.
"The All-Party meet on India's G-20 Presidency was a productive one. I thank all leaders who participated in the meeting and shared their insights. This Presidency belongs to the entire nation and will give us the opportunity to showcase our culture," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
According to the MEA, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of teamwork, and sought the cooperation of all leaders in the organization of various G20 events. He pointed out that the G20 Presidency would help showcase parts of India beyond the conventional big metros, thus bringing out the uniqueness of each part of our nation.
Highlighting the large number of visitors who would be coming to India during India’s G20 Presidency, Prime Minister took note of the potential for promoting tourism and boosting the local economies of the venues where G20 meetings would be organized, the MEA added.
Before Prime Minister Modi spoke, various political leaders provided insightful comments on India's G20 presidency.
They included former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Biju Janata Dal leader and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Aam Admi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, YSR Congress leader and Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, and DMK leader & Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin.
The meeting featured a detailed presentation outlining various aspects of India's G20 priorities.
During the meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made brief interventions. The meeting was also attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, and Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav.
