The White House also stated that the Biden administration valued the QUAD cooperation on the coronavirus
The White House has recognized India's essential contribution to the worldwide supply of vaccinations against COVID-19 and noted that the nation is a major vaccine producer.
At a media briefing on Tuesday, in response to a query on India's response to the Covid-19 crisis, Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, said, "So, what we know is that India has been—because of its incredible manufacturing capacity, it has been a major exporter of vaccines."
He further said that the QUAD partnership—a strategic security discussion on the coronavirus between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States—was significant to the Joe Biden administration.
"I think that Quad partnership is really important — certainly important to this administration. And I think, you know, India is an important manufacturer of vaccines for the world—I mean, not just for India itself. It’s a really important thing," he added.
Later, Dr Jha offered support for the Biden administration's choice to provide vaccinations worldwide, stating that the US will continue to provide them to every low-income country and several other low- and middle-income nations. However, he added that every significant variant that reached the US came from elsewhere.
He added, "It's just not how transmissible viruses like this work. So even if you think about it from very narrow self-interest, it's very important that we get much of the world vaccinated, that we help build out the kind of vaccination program. But beyond self-interest, you know, America is a country that has deeply engaged in the world."
Additionally, he stated that President Biden has "very different leadership from the previous President" in terms of reestablishing American leadership on global health.
