India also sought stronger international cooperation and efforts in key priority areas
India has expressed its commitment and active support to the Indonesian Presidency's efforts to finalize meaningful outcomes for the upcoming G20 Bali Summit in November 2022, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.
The summit was discussed at the third G20 Sherpa meeting of Indonesia's G20 Presidency in Yogyakarta from September 26–29 where the Indian delegation was led by Amitabh Kant.
According to the MEA, Kant also emphasised the need for the G20 to increase global attention on and strengthen international cooperation and efforts in key priority areas like sustainable growth, rapid SDG progress, combating climate change, including through Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE), tech-enabled development, and digital public infrastructure, multilateral reforms, and women's empowerment.
Aside from this, Kant also had bilateral with his visiting Sherpa colleagues from Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, the UK, and the United States during on the sidelines of the G20 Sherpa summit.
During these meetings, while talking about the current geopolitical scenario in the context of the G20, India''s G20 Sherpa brought up Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments on September 16 that "today's era is not of war...diplomacy and dialogue are things that touch the world."
"India’s constructive interventions infused greater positivity and optimism in G20 deliberations, further strengthening the collective resolve to address prevailing global challenges effectively," the MEA said.
The first and second Sherpa meetings under Indonesia's presidency were held December 2021 and July 2022, respectively.
