It includes field training on unconventional operations in jungle terrain
India and Malaysia commenced the joint military exercise, "Harimau Shakti-2022," on November 28 at Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia, on Monday. The exercise will end on December 22.
The Indian and Malaysian Armies have participated in Exercise 'Harimau Shakti', an annual training exercise, since 2012, the Ministry of Defense said.
This year, combat-experienced soldiers from the Royal Malay Regiment of the Malaysian Army and the Garhwal Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army are taking part in the exercise to share lessons learned from previous operations and improve interoperability in the planning and execution of various operations in the jungle terrain.
The scope of this exercise includes a company-level field training exercise (FTX) on unconventional operations in jungle terrain and a battalion-level command planning exercise (CPX).
In addition to organizing logistics at the battalion level, the joint exercise program includes the installation of a joint command post and a joint surveillance center, the exchange of knowledge in the use of aerial assets, technological demonstrations, casualty management, and casualty evacuation.
A two-day validation exercise will follow combined field training exercises, combat debates, and demonstrations, with a focus on improving tactical abilities, strengthening interoperability between the forces, and fostering relationships between the armies.
According to the Ministry of Defence, 'Exercise Harimau Shakthi' will improve the degree of defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army, which will in turn strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
