On Tuesday, Pakistan, will host the major Gurpurab event in Nankana Sahib
Sikh Jathas (groups of pilgrims) from India have arrived in Pakistan for the seven-day commemoration of the birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev under the watchful eyes of the Indian consular team.
The Indian consular staff in Pakistan is coordinating with the Sikh Jatha when touring gurdwaras while ensuring their safety and security.
The Indian High Commission in Islamabad tweeted,
"@IndiainPakistan consular team is on the ground,with the Indian jatha visiting Pakistan for Gurupurab, coordinating with jatha leaders,local authorities for their safety, security and to facilitate their visit to various Gurdwaras in Pakistan @MEAIndia"
From November 6–15, the Sikh community will commemorate Guru Nanak's birth anniversary. On Tuesday, Nankana Sahib, which is in Pakistan, will host the main Gurpurab event.
According to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the Jatha of pilgrims would pay homage at Gurdwara Sacha Sauda, Mandi Chuharkhana (Sheikhupura), on November 7. The Jatha will thereafter take part in the festivities for "Parkash Gurpurb" at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib.
The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi said last Friday that it had granted visas to nearly 3,000 Indian Sikh pilgrims so they could take part in the weeklong festivities.
