There has been a substantial spike in Russian drone and missile attacks in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities
Following a deterioration in the security situation and an upsurge in hostilities, India on Wednesday advised its citizens living in Ukraine to leave the nation "at the earliest."
The Indian embassy in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, released a statement regarding this in which they also urged Indian citizens not to visit Ukraine.
"In view of the deteriorating security situation and recent escalation of hostilities across Ukraine, Indian nationals are advised against travelling to Ukraine," the embassy said.
It added, "The Indian citizens, including students, currently in Ukraine are advised to leave Ukraine at the earliest by available means."
The warning came after another one on October 10 that had advised Indians to stay away from any unnecessary travel to or inside Ukraine.
The Indian action comes in response to a substantial spike in Russian drone and missile attacks that target the residential structures in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities as well as the country's energy infrastructure.
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed martial law in four Ukrainian regions that had been seized by his country recently. There have also been reports of residents evacuating the captured city of Kherson after receiving warnings of an oncoming attack.
Although there was no official information on the number of Indians living in Ukraine, there are reports that a small number of students had recently returned to the nation to restart their studies.
According to these reports, a few hundred Indians are believed to have returned to Ukraine, but the majority of them have not registered with the Indian Embassy.
