The day marked the 23rd anniversary of India's victory in the Kargil War
A grateful nation paid tributes to India's bravehearts on Tuesday to mark the 23rd anniversary of the memorable victory in the 1999 Kargil War.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised all the brave soldiers for their valour and tremendous sacrifice in Kargil while defending the country.
The Prime Minister stated in a tweet: "Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of pride and glory of Maa Bharati. On this occasion, my salute to all the brave sons of the country who have accomplished their valor in the defense of the motherland. Jai Hind!"
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid a floral tribute at the National War Memorial in New Delhi to honor the slain soldiers who helped India win the Kargil war in 1999. Senior Ministry of Defence civil and military officials also attended the event.
Singh was accompanied by MoS Ajay Bhatt, Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar, the Chief of the Army Staff,General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar, and the Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.
During the Kargil battle, the brave soldiers of the Indian Army triumphed over the Pakistanis who had taken control commanding heights by overcoming enormous odds, tough terrain, and bad weather with the assistance of the Indian Air Force.

They gave a befitting reply to enemy's misadventure and a resounding victory to #India," the Indian Army wrote on Twitter as it shared a video about the victory.
To commemorate this historic anniversary, a number of memorial services for the Kargil War fallen heroes have been held around the nation, notably at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.
