India said it believed that no solution was possible at the cost of innocent lives
India has again voiced its deep concern over the worsening situation in Ukraine and called for an end to all hostilities.
During a discussion at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday, India also supported efforts to reduce the suffering of the Ukrainian people, especially by facilitating dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow.
India's stand was reiterated at the UNSC Arria formula meeting on “Neo-Nazism and Radical Nationalism-Exploring Root Causes of the crisis in Ukraine” by Counsellor at India's Permanent Mission to the UN, Pratik Mathur.
"India remains deeply concerned over the situation in Ukraine. The conflict has resulted in loss of lives and countless miseries for its peoples, particularly for women, children and elderly, with millions becoming homeless and forced to take shelter in neighboring countries," Mathur pointed out.
India has been consistently calling for complete cessation of all hostilities since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, he said, adding that it had advocated the path of peace, dialogue and diplomacy.
"We support all efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Ukraine, especially talks between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, Mathur said. He also stated that India believed that no solution can be arrived at the cost of innocent lives.
"It is in our collective interest to work constructively, both inside the United Nations and outside, towards seeking an early resolution to this conflict. We continue to reiterate that the global order is anchored on international law, UN Charter and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of states," Counsellor Mathur added.
