Another 40,000 MT diesel consignment under Indian assistance reached Colombo on Friday as the island nation continued to grapple with a severe economic crisis and shortage of fuel and other essential items.

Over the past several weeks, India has supplied multiple shipments of fuel, including petrol, diesel, and kerosene to meet Sri Lanka's needs.

India has also been helping Sri Lanka with humanitarian assistance, including food and medicines.

On Thursday, the Consulate General of India in Hanbantota commenced the distribution of rice, milk powder in Akurassa, Matara District.

"Continuing the support to the people of #SriLanka, Consul General @dipinprIFS in presence of Mr. Nishan Pathirana, Additional District Secretary and other officials commenced distribution of rice, milk powder in Akurassa, #Matara District today," the Indian Consulate General tweeted.

This is part of the humanitarian assistance from Tamil Nadu, with 40,000 MT of rice and 500 MT of milk powder being distributed across Sri Lanka.

These supplies have also been distributed to families in Jaffna and Mannar.

India has also sent consignments of life-saving medicines and supplies to several hospitals and to Sri Lankan ambulance service Suwa Seriya. India had helped set up this free pre-hospital ambulance service in 2016.
