Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) Vikrant is scheduled to be commissioned as INS Vikrant later this year.

It is the most complex warship ever to be built in the country. As many as 76% of the equipment used in IAC Vikrant is indigenously sourced, according to the Ministry of Defence.

Earlier, on January 9, IAC Vikrant set sail for the third in a series of progressive sea trials to undertake complex manoeuvres. This will establish how the ship performs in various conditions, a statement from the Ministry of Defence had said.

Various sensor suites of the ship would also be tested, the MoD statement had informed.

The ship has been able to carry out basic flying operations from its very first sortie.

IAC Vikrant had its maiden sea trials in August last year. These were to establish propulsion, navigational suite and basic operations.

The second sea trial was held for 10 days in October-November last year. The ship was put through its paces in terms of machinery trials and flight trials and seamanship evolutions were also successfully cleared, the defence ministry had said.
