This is the fourth time that India has administered more than 10 million Covid-19 vaccine doses in a day

India achieved a new record in Covid-19 vaccinations by administering well over 22 million doses in a single day on Friday.

According to data available on the CoWin dashboard, nearly 22.3 million (2.23 crore) doses had been administered till about 9 pm. This number is expected to rise by the time the day ends and the final figures anre tabulated.

This is the first time that India has crossed the 20 million-dose mark in a single day since launching the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign on January 16 this year.

This is, however, the fourth time that India has administered more than 10 million Covid-19 vaccine doses in a day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all those who are involved in the vaccination drive for the feat.

"Every Indian would be proud of today’s record vaccination numbers.

I acknowledge our doctors, innovators, administrators, nurses, healthcare and all front-line workers who have toiled to make the vaccination drive a success. Let us keep boosting vaccination to defeat COVID-19," PM Modi said on Twitter.

Vaccinations had crossed the one-crore (10- million) mark by the afternoon.

"On PM @Narendra Modi Ji''s birthday, till 1:30 pm, the country has crossed the mark of 1 crore vaccines, the fastest so far, and we are continuously moving forward. I believe that today we will all make a new record of vaccination and give it as a gift to the prime minister," Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.

India’s recovery rate stands at 97.65%

Meanwhile, the recovery of 37,950 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,25,98,424.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 97.65%, the health ministry said, referring to data available till 7 am in the morning.

Continuing the trend of less than 50,000 Daily New Cases being reported for 82 consecutive days now, 34,403 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

The Active Caseload is currently 3,39,056 and Active Cases and constitute 1.02% of the country's total Positive Cases.

The last 24 hours saw a15,27,420 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 54.92 crore (54,92,29,149) cumulative tests.

While testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, the Weekly Positivity Rate at 1.97% remains less than 3% for the last 84 days now.

The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 2.25%. This has remained below 3% for last 18 days and below 5% for 101 consecutive days now.
